Scanning
How do I get the best identification?
- Use soft, even light, and tilt the coin slightly to get rid of glare.
- Fill the frame with the coin and keep it in sharp focus.
- Scan both sides. The year and mint mark can be on either side.
- Never clean or polish a coin to get a better photo. Cleaning can wipe out much of its value.
The result looks wrong. What can I do?
Check the “might also be” matches, and compare the year and mint mark with the coin itself. Try again in better light. With CoinWiz Pro, you can also switch to one of the close matches or fix the year. If it's still wrong, tap No under “Is this right?” on the result screen. Your feedback helps improve CoinWiz.
It says it couldn't identify my coin.
Try again closer, with better light and less glare. Very worn, damaged or very rare coins may not have a match. In that case, CoinWiz shows what it could read, such as the country and year.
Which coins can CoinWiz identify?
Coins from around the world, with extra features, such as album sets, for US, UK, Canadian and Australian coins. CoinWiz identifies coins, not banknotes.
Values and grades
How does CoinWiz estimate a coin's value?
It estimates the coin's grade from your photos, then, when the coin is found in the catalogue, shows catalogue values for that grade and the grades around it, in your currency, with the source and date. When there's no catalogue price, you'll see a rough estimate, labelled as one. Silver and gold coins also show a melt value.
Is that what a dealer will pay me?
Not necessarily. Values are estimates, not offers or appraisals. The real price depends on the coin's condition and authenticity, on demand, and on where you sell, and dealers often pay less than the values shown. For a valuable coin, get a professional appraisal or a certified grade.
How accurate is the grade?
It's an estimate from photos, not a certified grade. Light and camera angle can hide wear, cleaning or damage. For a certified grade, send the coin to a professional grading service.
CoinWiz Pro
What does CoinWiz Pro cost?
CoinWiz Pro Yearly starts with a 7-day free trial, then costs $39.99 a year in the US. CoinWiz Pro Weekly has no trial and costs $6.99 a week in the US. In other countries, prices are in your local currency and are shown in the app before you buy. The full details are in our Terms of Use.
How do I cancel my subscription or free trial?
Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose CoinWiz and tap Cancel Subscription. To avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or current period ends. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.
I paid, but CoinWiz still shows the paywall.
Tap Restore Purchases in the app, using the same Apple ID you paid with. You can also check in Settings → your name → Subscriptions that the subscription is active. If it still doesn't work, write to us with the form below.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so it handles refunds too. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Can I use CoinWiz Pro on a new iPhone?
Yes. Sign in with the same Apple ID and tap Restore Purchases. Your collection is stored on your devices, not on our servers. If iCloud is on for CoinWiz, your collection and progress sync to your new iPhone through your own iCloud; otherwise they move with your iPhone's own backup or transfer.
Ask Wiz
What is Ask Wiz?
Ask Wiz is an AI chat, part of CoinWiz Pro, that answers questions about coins, up to 30 questions a day. It's for people 18 and over, so the app asks you to confirm your age before your first question. Answers come from Anthropic's Claude AI and can be wrong, so check anything important yourself.
An answer was wrong or offensive. What can I do?
Tap Report under the answer and choose why. The answer is hidden, and it's sent to us with your question so we can review it. Questions and answers with offensive words are blocked automatically.
Your data
Do I need an account?
No. CoinWiz never asks for your name or email.
Are my photos kept?
Scan photos go to our server and to our AI provider to identify the coin, and our server doesn't keep them. Photos you save to your collection stay on your devices (and in your own iCloud, if it's on). Read more in our Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Profile → Delete my data. This erases your collection and progress on your phone and in your iCloud, and what our server keeps for your app. It can't be undone, and it doesn't cancel a subscription.
